I hereby declare in a public forum that I want the Matt Maher song “Hold Us Together” played at my funeral. There, who says you need to pay for an attorney to draft a silly thing like a will? My estate and final wishes are taken care of now (DISCLAIMER; I AM NOT AN ATTORNEY AND AM NOT GIVING LEGAL ADVICE. A WILL AND PROPER ESTATE PLANNING ARE VERY, VERY IMPORTANT).
In any event, I want this song played for a couple of reasons, 1) The song has the line that it uses multiple times, “This is the first day of the rest of your life”. How ironic and hilarious it would be to have that line at your funeral. Like Lester Burnham says in the movie American Beauty, “Remember those posters that said, “Today is the first day of the rest of your life”? Well, that’s true of every day but one – the day you die.; 2) The song (and poster) are a great reminder that we have a limited time on this earth to accomplish what we want and establish the legacy we want to leave behind. We must learn to prioritize what is important and block out the irrelevant noise. It is somewhat of a cliché but it is true; what do you want people to say about you at your funeral?
Get busy today leading the life you want to lead. Every moment is important and every positive action today leads to building the future you want and deserve.
